Couplings in steam turbines:
The flexible couplings with high speed transmission and high compensation for two-axis displacement are often used in steam turbines, the most commonly used are gear coupling and diaphragm coupling. The design of flexible couplings for industrial steam turbines, the materials for bearing parts, the control of manufacturing quality, inspection and selection have been prescribed by corresponding national standards.

The reasons for the use of high-speed power transmission couplings in steam turbines:
The stability of the transmission system and the service life of the transmission system are the key factors affecting the use of industrial steam turbines. The stability of the transmission system includes the ability of the transmission system to compensate the axial, radial and angular displacement, as well as the balance of the coupling, etc. There are many problems affecting the service life of the coupling. It is mainly the manufacturing strength of the coupling itself, including fatigue strength and torsional stiffness.

There are clear standards for the material selection, manufacturing accuracy and service life of the gear coupling and diaphragm coupling used in the industrial steam turbine in China. The service life of the general coupling should be able to be used continuously in the unit for more than 3 years, and the coupling bolt and shaft hole diameter (with the shaft) should be strictly implemented. Coupling manufacturers in the in-depth study of the national standards of couplings at the same time strictly implement the national standards in the material and heat treatment requirements of precision manufacturing gear coupling and diaphragm coupling, so that the overall performance of the coupling meet or even exceed the national standard requirements, well received by practical users at home and abroad!
